BRODA CHAIR INDISPENSABLE IN ICU
Barb Paquette, RN and Clinical Coordinator for the ICU at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, poses with one of the unit’s four “Broda” chairs, which were funded in part by donations to the Foundation. The chairs are indispensable for getting ICU patients out of bed, which the medical staff tries to do as soon as possible because it helps patients’ breathing and strength and ultimately shortens the length of their hospital stay. The Broda is the only chair they use in the ICU for getting patients in and out of bed. It has ideal head, neck, back and foot support and is wide enough for large patients. Barb says the ICU’s four Brodas, which cost $4,000 each, are used “all the time.”
